We have been creating DIY and Woodworking How-To videos on YouTube for 6 years now, but before YouTube and through our first year, we were making and selling custom furniture to clients.
I want to share what we were commissioned most to build so that it’ll help you decide what to start building and selling. A fantastic way to start building a client list is to get your name out there by utilizing the good ole Facebook Marketplace and the local buy-and-sell Facebook groups.
1. Dining Tables
What you can do is build trendy and useful furniture items and sell them straight on Facebook Marketplace for straight cash! We would recommend starting small with something like a coffee table, but be our guest to go big and build a dining table!

2. Accent Chairs
Accent chairs can be just what a buyer is looking for. They could be wanting to update their living room or replace their current ones. Chairs can be a little more complicated because usually, chairs have angled seats, but it’s totally doable to build ones that don’t, and guess what, they still sell!

3. Buffets
Buffets and console tables or console cabinets are big hitters. Everyone needs more storage and a cute table to decorate on top of. Not to mention how much these pieces of furniture can pull a room together! Here’s a TV media center that we built that can also be a buffet!

4. Gym Furniture
A couple of years ago, we made a plyo box for a personal trainer in our area. The number of people that reached out to us for one was incredible. We have personally been putting a home gym together and it’s crazy how expensive gym furniture can be. We have plans to build a dumbbell rack, bench, and storage shelves for mats, rolling out balls, etc.

5. Outdoor Furniture
Before we got married, Dylan lived in his own apartment where we built outdoor furniture for. When he moved from that apartment, he didn’t have a need for those pieces anymore, so we sold them on Marketplace in minutes. Who knew?! We have a list of project plans on DIY outdoor furniture as well, but anything outdoors typically sells really well!
